The Hall
A residence among the oldest grounds
The Hall stands on the Polytechnic Campus, among the oldest academic grounds of the university. Its early ledgers record the years of expansion after university status was granted in 1949: new wings, a larger mess, a reading room that stayed open through examination season.

History
§ From the Hall's own recordsSir M. Visvesvaraya Hall opened its doors in 1958, the same year the register of the halls was commenced. It has housed generations of engineering students through the decades of the university's growth.
Its alumni include engineers, civil servants, teachers and traders across Gujarat and beyond. The Hall's warden's office continues to keep its own records, and the register you are reading draws on those books.
Memories
§ Contributed by alumniWinter mornings in the mess. The gas-fired boilers were new once. Before them, hot water was a rumour and a bucket. The line for the tap was where friendships were made.
The reading room at midnight. The tube lights hummed. Someone always had a transistor on low. The examination-week rule was one candle per table, and it was honoured in the breach.
Foundation Day. Every February, the senior batch cooked for the juniors. The menu never changed, and that was the point.
